Hi All
I’m compiling a list of the great questions that I’ve been asked in the last week, so we can ask the Angel Food Ministry group in a follow up call this week. Below are the ones that I am remembering.
Angel Food Ministry Questions
- How does the food come – is it pre-bundled or do we bundle it?
- Food delivered to Host Site, where it is then divided into “units”. Each unit is packaged in a separate box. (We would go to host site and help with this)
- I still have to check where the boxes come from…I’m pretty sure it’s Angel Food…
- How is the money handled? (ie – can the money/checks/food stamps be forwarded directly to Angel Food Ministries?)
- We send one check to Angel Food for the amount of cash and checks we receive. Food stamps are handled separately, and we do not have to cover any cost for that. Angel Food will train us on how to handle food stamps
- What happens if someone doesn’t pick up their order?
- They have 30-60 minutes after the distribution time ends to pick up orders. Otherwise the food becomes ours and can be given to other needy families. No refunds are given.
- What if down the road we decide this ministry isn’t the right fit or there are not enough orders to continue the ministry?
- No problem—just let them know. There are no fees, penalties, etc.
- What type of refrigeration/freezer capacity is needed?
- None needed, since it is distributed fairly quickly.
- Where is the Toledo area pickup? What time do we need to pick up?
- Drop site probably would be at Pilgrims Church, Toledo (they also have a host site in Adrian) Truck arrives about 4:30 am—don’t give up on this program yet ;-)
- What’s the best way to handle orders if you don’t have a full time office for people to drop their orders off at?
- Varies…Sundays or whenever church is open, or set up one day when someone is there for that reason
- What are the hours of distribution?
- Truck arrives at 4:30 am at the drop/host site (Pilgrims Church). Distribution is typically 6—10am. (distribution is what is done at our church)
- How many people are needed for distribution and are they scheduled in shifts?
- Answers vary. It comes down to the more people, the faster it goes. One guy told me it usually takes about 10 to unload truck—but it depends on # units ordered. The number of volunteers needed would be worked out with Pilgrims Church. According to Angel Food they suggest overall 1 volunteer per 10-12 units ordered.
- At my mom & dad’s church some guys go pick up the orders at the host site and then go home. Some stay for distribution as well. Can be done based on availability of volunteers.
- What if someone gives a bad check. Who is responsible for contacting the person to make it right. Is it Morocco or is it Angel?
- Bad checks…We would handle this. However, according to several people I spoke w/ @ Angel Food this happens very rarely. In their experience, people feel more guilty about doing this to a church. If they do it once, we wouldn’t accept check again from them.
- I will be contacting other churches in the next few days to see if they have experienced this problem.
- What if the person has received the food and does not make the check good. Does Morocco have to cover it?
- Because the order date is in advance of the pick-up date we would know by then (if the checks were cashed promptly) if the check was bad, and the people would obviously not get their food. We would then own that unit and could sell or give it away.
- Depending on the time, we may be able to cash checks and know if any have bounced before we place the order. That would keep us from getting “stuck” with any extra units.
Please email back an more questions I may have missed or forgotten.
Also, in a couple of weeks the OH/MI area distribution will be taking place. We would like to arrange to have several people observe participating churches. This may include Bedford Nazarene, a Toledo area church, Albion Free Methodist, Hillsdale UB, Monroe Nazarene, or others. If you or someone you know are available for a ride along/observation on the last Saturday of the month, please let Violet or myself know.
Thanks
Pastor Mike

2008-07-06 22:26Hi Mike:
I have a question.
What if someone gives a bad check. Who is responsible for contacting the person to make it right. Is it Morocco or is it Angel?
What if the person has received the food and does not make the check good. Does Morocco have to cover it?

2008-07-07 08:30Violet is willing to rearrange her Saturday morning to observe at another church.
Dawn has mentioned observing at her folks church (Dawn – can you verify your schedule?)
We’ll contact a couple of churches who have indicated they are willing to let us observe in the past.
Anyone else up for a “ride-along”? :)

2008-07-08 16:24Hi all. I contacted Angel Food today, and here is what I found:
1. Food delivered to Host Site, where it is then divided into “units”. (We would go to host site and help with this)
2. We send one check to Angel Food, along with food stamp info (which they will train us on how to handle)
3. They have 30-60 minutes within the distribution time to pick up orders. Otherwise they are given to other needy families.
4. No problem—just let them know
5. none needed, since it is distributed fairly quickly
6. Drop site probably would be @ Pilgrims Church, Toledo (they also have a host site in Adrian) Truck arrives about 4:30 am—don’t give up on this program yet;-)
7. Varies…Sundays or whenever church is open, or set up one day when someone is there for that reason
8. Truck arrives @ 4:30 am. Distribution typically is 6—10am
9. I get varied answers on this. It comes down to the more people, the faster it goes. One guy told me it usually takes about 10 to unload truck—but it depends on # units ordered. (And there would be some from other church as well). At my mom & dad’s church some guys go pick up the orders at the host site and then go home. Some stay for pickup as well. Can be done based on availability of volunteers.
10 & 11 Bad checks…We would handle this. However, according to several people I spoke w/ @ Angel Food this happens very rarely. In their experience, people feel more guilty about doing this to a church. If they do it once, we wouldn’t accept check again from them, and we would “only” be out the $30 (or whatever)

2008-07-08 20:42Vi and Dawn are going to town!
The answers Dawn posted are integrated into the main article.
Good questions and good answers so far. Read over the answers and post any questions they raise. We’ll update the Q&A list again then.

2008-07-15 11:20I called Pilgrim Church today. They said that it is a good idea to come and observe what goes on the day of delivery. This will be July 26th usuly at 4:30am. Pat Bollinger will contact me on more details on the time. They told me that the boxes of food come in at about 4:30am the boxs are sorted by boxes we then take them back to our church and then sort. What they do is put all the pizzas in a pile and all the veg in a pile ect. They have someone at each pile to hand out. They ask the people to bring a box or a laundry basket to put there food in. They distribute the food between 10:00am and 12:00am. Pilgrim Church is located on W. Sylvania Ave. Between Lewis Ave.Rd and Jackman Rd. I encourage everyone to take this chance on July 26th to go with us to Pilgrim Church, this way you can see if you would like to be apart of this ministry.
